3 Steps for Easy Visualisation

Ok, so visualisation isn’t always an easy skill for the beginner to get to grips with that’s true, but there are some simple tricks and tips that can help you become a visualisation expert faster and easier. Let’s just make sure you understand first though exactly why visualisation is so important.

After the ethics and basic fundamentals, visualisation is probably THE single most important tool in your Wiccan and Witchcraft armoury. It’s the technique you’ll use eventually to cast circles, to create magickal workings, to improve your life choices and to connect with the Divine. It’s your pathway to Wiccan and Craft success in other words and so it’s incredibly important to master as soon as you can. So what’s some easy ways to help the process?

Step 1

Relax! Simple as that, just slow down, don’t put so much pressure on yourself to “achieve” visualisation and have some fun with it. It’s not a competition and you don’t have to be an expert in four days. It can take years and years of practice to become adept at full visualisation so don’t expect miracles for several weeks or even months. Give yourself permission to not get it right and perfect for a while!

Step 2

If it’s hard to see things at first, cheat. Instead of trying to create things in your mind to see, remember recent things instead. It’s far easier to see an image in your mind if you already know what it looks like so if you’re being asked to remember a meal, an animal, a face or whatever, remember one from this morning or from yesterday. If your Craft teacher is telling you to visualise a face or a meal, then think about your friend’s face who you saw yesterday or what you had for breakfast this morning. See how much easier it is to see a picture of something in your mind when you already know what it looks like?! Spend a few days practicing that first so you begin to feel comfortable with the process of opening your mind up to memories and seeing them again in your mind’s eye.

When you’re ready, try and remember a face you saw or a meal you ate or the dog from next door that you haven’t’ seen for at least a week. Stretch out that time frame so that instead of remembering something from a few hours ago, you’re now remembering something from several days ago. Then stretch that out even further and try and remember a face from many years ago or how it felt to eat your favourite food when you were a child. Really test your memory and get your mind’s eye to remember things from many years previously.

Step 3

Now that you’ve got your mind’s eye working to visualise things from your distant memory, it’s time to use your imagination and create pictures in your mind of things that haven’t happened yet or that you want to happen. That’s real visualisation for Wiccan and Witchcraft purposes and is what you should eventually be aiming for. Casting circles and creating magical workings is all about using your imagination to focus your visualisation techniques so that you eventually create representations of your visualisations on other planes. Play at this point with your imagination and create rooms complete with furniture. Imagine what your favourite room would look like if money was no object. Imagine your ideal home, ideal car, holiday, partner. Really have fun with your imagination and draw pictures in your mind of what you’d like. When you design these rooms, houses, cars or whatever, try and hear what the people say, smell the fragrances of the room, feel the temperatures. Use all your senses as your imagine and create because these skills are the exact same skills that you need for Wiccan visualisations. By the time you can achieve these outcomes, you will already be a master visualiser!

Smiles and blessings,
