Let's not steal work-let's respect and reference
Hi folks all,
as a means of respect for the work of others, I would ask that whenever you copy and paste something into a forum post (perhaps for the weekly discussion points or whatever) that you reference it. Just let us know where you got the info from. This is polite, ensures you don't breach copyright of the owner of the info and enables others to go and look at the original work and learn some more if they wish to as well.
For the context behind this request, check out the blog entry, Stealing People's Work in A Witch's Day. Now please understand I am NOT accusing anyone here of stealing work to post on the forums but given I have posted to the blog how rude it is to copy and paste people's work, that it is in fact copyright infringement and therefore stealing, and that we are community that respects the rights of others, I'm going to suggest we do exactly that, respect the rights of the original authors when we copy and paste. Nothing wrong with copying and pasting to the forum but let's make sure we reference it when we do, me included. :)
To reference a website, please enter the URL of the site and the day you accessed it.
To reference a book, journal or something in hardcopy, please make sure you give the title of the work and the author. I'll put this into the weekly discussion posts from this week on so we don't forget.
Hugs and smiles as always my wonderful folks, Me

Great reminder Amethyst,
Great reminder Amethyst, referencing is so important. Also, one of my favorite parts about when people reference is that it allows me to find wonderful new sources of learning :-)
referencing
I respect this post immensly. It is important to reference material from other sources that allows us at a convenient time to go experience further learning. It is one thing to read and rewrite from learning but another to copy and paste. Thanks Amethyst. xxx
Thanks Candace
Thanks Gwennie and Butterfly Spirit. We probably need to thank Candace who PM'd me and suggested we ask for references after I posted to the blog. She was spot on of course so the thanks really go to her.
Hugs my lovely O & M family.

great idea
That's the first thing my son learned in his honors English class. How to do a work-cited page. As everyone has already said, it is nice to be able to look up some of the work that we read about. Thank you for your post Amethyst
Thanks Candice and anyone else who has been thinking this.
Thanks, it was a great suggestion Candice and anyone else who has been thinking this.
What I notice when things are copy/paste "too much" the forum loses it's excitment and lacks personality in the text!

I personally always do even
I personally always do even on my own blog, generally linking to my sources. I guess when you've done a degree you learn early on to cite your sources as it makes good reference for both marker and yourself later on.
Doesn't hurt to have a friendly reminder though :)
