Saying goodbye to a loved pet.

I had the wonderful pleasure of having lunch with an old friend today but was so sad to hear that her old doggy fur kid Peggy was at the vet and dying. Apprently Peggy (who's now a ripe old 13 years or 91 in doggy years) has been coughing blood, has been rather sad for the last couple of days and is ready to go to the Summerlands. My friend was going to pick Peggy back up from the vet this afternoon and let her come home to die at peace amongst her loved ones at home. My friend and I talked about our pets and the unconditional love they give us over the years and how heartbreaking it is when they leave us.

I cannot imagine life now without my own Doggy Shadow who is beside me every minute of the day. If he could get any closer to me, I swear he'd be inside my skin and I felt such sorrow for my friend who will be losing Peggy anyday now.

How blessed are we to receive such devotion, such unconditional love, such unquestioned adoration from our fur kids who spend thier lives giving us thier love. Yes we also have to put up with the muddy foot prints on the brand new sofa covers, yes we have to clean up dog poop from the back garden, yes I screw my nose up after the doggy fart assaults my nose, yes I have to brush Doggy Shadow every day after our walk because he drags half the park home in his long dangly coat but would I give all that up? Not in a lifetime! It's all worth it for his companionship, his smoochy cuddles and his gorgeous puppy dog eyes that glisten with love.

So I really feel for my friend who has to say goodbye to her Peggy. She has been so blessed to share Peggy's life but it's time to say goodbye and let Peggy live on in her memories. Peace and hugs to you Peggy and thank you for showing my friend how much joy, laughter and happiness a fur kid can bring to a family,

blessings, Amethyst.
