Visualisation

Visualisation We all know what this is. It holds a very important place within our beliefs. It is our most powerful tool for creating change. We visualise to connect to the Divine, to focus our energy and to complete rituals and spells. The problem is, despite being a creative person, I'm not any good at it. Sure, if I'm in the right mind set, the I can see things clearly in my mind. But a lot of places seem to assume you can do this with your eyes open too. I can't! I have enough trouble interpreting the reality I am in, let a lone sticking my own on top of it!

And visualisation practice is all very well, and I have tried time again. (I'll point out at this point that the visualisation in lesson one here is one of the easiest I have ever found to connect too.) But I think my problem is making the time...even though I have plenty, I'm not at school anymore, I just never seem to be able to set aside time for it. My other problem is confidence. I lack the confidence that I can be good at it. This is partly due to the fact that, like I've said, I'm a perfectionist. This can result in a bit of angry if I am not satisfied in my own ability.

Like they say, the first step to over coming a problem is to identify it. Now I just need to work on ways of getting around this!

I am sure that perfectionism

I am sure that perfectionism is learned.  After all, as a toddler you didn't refuse to try walking again after you fell down the first time!  You got up and tried and tried again, and you got the hang of it.  Right?  :-)  A perfectionist attitude is a recipe for failure.  So, forgive yourself if your session wasn't perfect, but congratulate yourself every time you "get it".  Like right now, for the favourite meal visualization.  Good on you!  Also remember that "visualizing" can be a misleading term, because we use all of our senses.  If we don't "see" well with our eyes closed, perhaps we are good at imagining sounds, remembering smells, and so forth.  There may also be different times of day when your mind is more receptive to imaginative activity.  For example, afternoon and evening work best for me, and I imagine food very well when I'm hungry, but poorly if I have something of a conflicting flavour in my mouth.  Eg., I find it hard to imagine nachos when I have chocolate in my mouth!

Visualisation

Merry Meet Anya,

I know exactly what you mean... I also find visualisation extremly difficult. As you say finding the time is soooo hard, but I also lack the confidence to really make it work. But like you I shall not give up..they say practice makes perfect and my new rule is to make time for just me.. and that means for me to have time to practice what I am not great at ( trust me when I say I never make that much time :)... I will send you all my energy and love to help you in your quest to master visualisation... Hopefully some will make it to you..

Keep trying,

Kind thoughts and blessings

XD thank you

Thanks for the confidence everyone! One of my favorite things about wiccan communities is that they are full of the wise people in the world, regardless of their actual age. I hope that one day I can inspire confidence in others the same way you have both inspired it in me!
