Brigid's Cross: A Video on How to make One
Each Imbolc I like to make a new Brigid’s Cross to protect my home for one more year. I sacrifice the old Brigid’s Cross in the balefire as a means of saying thank you for the protection it gave me over the previous year and the new one then takes it place hanging at the front door.
Brigid’s Crosses are believed to have evolved out of Ireland as a tool of protection against fire and evil spirits. They’re not known to have been made before the 17th century but they’ve certainly been very popular since then.
When writing this week’s InfoCircle, I did consider just writing out the instructions but just for a change I’ve made a video for you instead. It’s much easier to watch how to make them rather than read it! And before you get too worried, I promise, they’re really easy to make!
